There are several things to look for when choosing patio doors.

1. Which best fits your home? A swinging door or sliding glass doors?
2. Make sure the door is well insulated and will fit tightly in the frame. Steel and vinyl doors will withstand the elements and never need painting. Wood can warp, rot or split, and needs to be painted.
3. Look for multi-point locking systems and reinforced strike plate. Also, is the door itself good and strong?
4. Look for strong weatherstripping. You want the door to fit snugly within the frame to ensure little air gets in or out. Patio doors that are energy efficient should feature the ENERGY STAR label.
